Love in Pictures

I sat in a leather chair and flipped through my phone, while I waited for my appointment to be ready.

I scanned the various Moroccan oil infused shampoos on the shelf, and thought more than once about taking one of the chocolate covered biscotti my salon leaves out for its clientele. Ok ok, more than twice.

I examined the chipped nail polish at the edge of each of my finger tips, and silently wished I had made more time to repaint them before heading out the door. {I know, you always tell me I should leave more time for getting ready.} And in general, I avoided eye contact with the other people in the lobby....as you do in these waiting game sort of situations.

You see, I was more than happy to keep to myself and not learn a thing from the world that day. But the world, as it usually does, had other plans.

Because sitting next to me, patiently waiting, was this older gentleman who didn't seem to be in a rush at all. It struck me as a little strange that he was there, in this mostly women's salon, until that is...I saw her. She came out all smiles and small shuffled steps, leaning on the arm of the girl who was helping her. As soon as he saw her, he jumped out of his seat and rushed over to take her hand. He told her she looked pretty and then said to the girl behind the counter, Now, isn't she a prize? In one well-rehearsed movement, the kind that can only come from a life-long dance together, he was somehow able to take her purse, pay the bill and set up her next appointment. And just when I thought it couldn't get any better I heard him say, Now because you're my girl, if you'll wait right here I'll go and pull the car closer so you don't have to walk as far. And that's exactly what he did.

And then the two of them went off together, hand in hand, the way they were always meant to be.

As I sat there watching this moment unfold behind the safety of my phone, I couldn't help but snap a few pictures. Because let's be honest, a love like that needs to be in pictures. And...I couldn't help but think of you.

Couldn't help but think that that would be you someday. And, now that I was thinking of it.....that that was you right now.

Because while I sat in a leather chair and contemplated biscotti, you were out taking care of our lives. Running errands and getting us ready for this trip. You had dropped me off at the door insisting that I take a few hours in all the craziness for myself. And you would be waiting there when I came back out. You would be the kind of guy who wouldn't be embarrassed to help carry my bag, if it meant it would help lighten my load. You would hop up & smile when you saw me, and you would make me feel really really lucky to be your girl.

And then we would head off together, and wherever we were going you can bet it would be hand in hand.

The way that we were always meant to.

So today in the midst of all the other pictures we have to post this week, I just wanted to take a second to post this picture for you J.

Because a love like ours needs to be in pictures too.

Love,
me
