She sat in a blue room and felt her heart race a little faster. She swung from happy to excited to nervous...and then back again. And with each pass, her heart soared a little higher. Around her, her bridesmaids laughed and spun around the room in navy dresses. While the light caught flecks of gold and scattered them to the ceiling. Like stars in the night sky. Everything around her was suddenly somehow moving in fast forward and slow motion all at the same time. She heard herself say she was ready. And then everyone around her cheered. And right then, somehow, she already knew....this was the kind of day when magic happened.
He stood in front of a blue water backdrop, and felt his heart race a little faster. Later they would sit side by side on the swings, and walk up and down the beach together...and then back again. And with each pass, his heart would grow a little fuller. Around them, the most important people in the world would laugh and spin around the room on a carousel from the 1920s. While the light caught flecks of gold and scattered them to the ceiling. And the two of them would sit out together and stare up at the stars in the night sky. But right now everything was suddenly somehow moving in fast forward and slow motion. All at the same time. He heard himself say forever. And then everyone around them cheered. And right then, somehow, he already knew....
This was the kind of day, when magic happened.
Married: Natalie & Ryan
Natalie & Ryan were married on a day that was nothing short of pure magic at the Carousel House at Lighthouse Park. And the day came together even more perfectly and full of whimsy thanks to the tireless efforts of Lindsay Mastroianni and the whole Sixpence For Your Shoe team (Nicole, I'm giving a shout out to you!) who we absolutely ADORE!! These two were surrounded by love and light and hope for a beautiful life together. And more hugs than you can fit in a normal day...thankfully, this was most definitely not your normal day. Put it this way. Natalie actually works at Facebook, and if I could give their day a million likes I would. And I would do it all while wearing my signature Mark Zuckerberg hoodie. Natalie & Ryan, thank you guys SO much for having us there with you on your day. It is an honor that we will not soon forget. My hope is that you love like this always....with hearts that are full, and a life full of the kind of days that make you believe in magic.
He stood alone and faced two double doors, the whole of his future waiting just on the other side. He held a handwritten card with her name on it, and a seal on the back just to keep it a little extra safe. To keep it protected between just the two of them. He buttoned and re-buttoned his jacket. Was reminded of the hand-tailored rule, always, sometimes, never. And as every second seemed to drag on and on and stretch out toward forever, he stood waiting for the prize of a lifetime somewhere behind door number two.
They stood together and faced one another, the whole of their future waiting just on the other side. He held a ring in his hand with her name on it, and put an arm around the small of her back just to keep her a little extra safe. To keep this moment protected between just the two of them. He heard and repeated his vows. Was reminded of the hand-tailored rule. always, sometimes, never. Always love her. Sometimes, even when you're right, be the first to say you're sorry. And never ever let her go. And as the seconds blurred by faster and faster and they were announced into forever, he stood in awe at this prize of a lifetime together.
And was suddenly so grateful....for door number two.
Married: Lauren & Anthony
Lauren & Anthony were married at the absolutely spectacular Saltwater Farm Vineyard on a day that was cut from the same cloth. Together with their closest friends & family, they celebrated, they hugged, they loved, and they started a life off right. Every detail of the day was executed to flawless perfection with help from the amazing event staff from Gourmet Galley. The blooms provided by Hana Floral Design were nothing short of jaw dropping. And at the end of the night when we hugged them goodbye, I was reminded with a flood of absolute certainty why we do what we do. L&A you guys treated us just like we were part of the party. Friends first, who also happened to have cameras. Your love is infectious, an inspiration to everyone around you. And your hearts, the way you treat people, should be an example for us all to follow. There are not enough words in all the world or the english language dictionary to express how much that means to us. And just know, that whether you counted on this or not, you now have two new friends for life! :) My hope is that you will love like this always....because really, the world needs more examples like yours.
She rounded the corner to peek in the mirror just one. more. time. She smoothed the fabric on the front of her dress, and a deep breath gave way to a huge smile. She was getting married. Today. Their day. The months had turned into days had turned into minutes. And now their time was here. The dress, the hair, the makeup were all in place. All that was left, all that she needed was him.
As she rounded the corner, he fought the temptation to peek just one. more. time When she finally got to him, he smoothed the hair back from the side of her face and a deep breath gave way to a huge smile. This was it. They were getting married. Today. Their day. In a second, he could see the days stretching out into months and into years ahead of them. Their time was just starting here. The archway, the music, the guests were all in place. And from now and for the rest of his days he knew....
All he needed was her.
Married: Stephanie & Stu
Stephanie & Stu were married on a day when the sky itself lit up and put on a show in their honor. A parade of pink, purple and blue settled in over the sleepy valley below, and took their seats as they watched two people start a life together. Together with their friends & family, Stephanie & Stu promised forever. And when they were done, even the sky itself couldn't help but shed a tear or two. S&S it was our honor to be your photographers, but it is honestly a much bigger honor to be your friends. Thank you, thank you, thank you for having us there with you on your day. My hope is that you will love like this always. Holding on to one another, and with a lifetime full of the kind of sunsets you inspired that day.
She stood with her head bowed low, as the light poured in the glass panes of the hotel windows like the old lights of Hollywood. It picked her. Chose her. Wrapped in around her and singled her out. And made everything else fall away. She took a deep breath, and then another. As she prepared to step out on this stage. And whatever happened next, one thing was already certain. This night, their night, was shining like diamonds. It glittered in the evening sky. And when it was time for her entrance, even the stars themselves went pale in comparison.
He stood with his head bowed low, as the light poured in the stained glass windows of the cathedral and lit up the entire night like the silver screen. Even from the front he could see...it picked her. Chose her. Skipped over everyone else in the room and singled her out. And made everything else fall away. Later that night he would take a deep breath, and then another. As he prepared to step out on the stage and play a song he had written just for her. And whatever happened next, one thing was already certain. On this night, their night, she was shining like diamonds. She glittered in the evening sky. And he already knew that from now and for the next fifty years, anytime he looked at her....
Even the stars themselves would pale in comparison.
Married: Laura & Christopher
Laura & Christopher were married in Miami on a night even Bogart & Bacall themselves would be proud of. Everything about the day glittered. Everywhere she went, Laura lit up the room. And in his classic black bow tie, Christopher made for an excellent leading man. The day was put together flawlessly by the amazing Tamara Cohen & her team at TC Event Design. We never know what these guys are going to put together next...but even still, when hora loca rolled around and the room filled with stilt walkers, aerialists and show girls....I still found myself having to pick my jaw up off the ground. Laura & Christopher, thank you so much for having us there with you...we will never forget it! My hope is that you love like this always: larger than life and with a love that puts the stars to shame.
So much love,
**A HUGE thanks going out to the amazing Miss Chantal Lawrie for coming along and shooting with us on this one! This was most definitely a four person job, and time and time again she stepped up and helped us really get the job done. Usually while working miracles. She is an incredible photographer, but now we feel so lucky to call her an incredible friend. We love you Chantal!!
They stood together in a field of green, green grass against a backdrop of gray. And the skies threatened to open up at any second. In the distance, the thunder rolled and announced its impending arrival. An uninvited wedding guest, who didnít even bother to pick up a gift on the way in. But to them, it did not matter. They held on tighter to one another as the first drops fell. Laughed when her veil wrapped around them in the wind. And when the rain came down, they just danced in the storm. Found shelter, together. And when all seemed dark outside, they just followed the light from within.
They stood together in a sea of friends and family against a backdrop tradition. And the tears threatened to open up at any second. In the distance, they talked about a future they had not lived yet. The uncertainty of the twists and turns in the road ahead. But to them, it did not matter. They held on tighter to one another as the first drops fell. Laughed when the first wave of bubbles wrapped around them in the wind. As they promised a life together where they would always find a way to dance in the storm. Find shelter in one another. And that when all looked dark outside....
That they would always have, the light from within.
Married: Jenn & Karl
Jenn & Karl were married at the Webb Barn on a day that ran the full spectrum between dark & stormy and golden sunlight. When the only thing that didnít change, was how happy the two of them were. Together. They laughed and danced and hugged. And let nothing dampen the love they had for each other....and every single person there in attendance with them. J&K, my hope is that you will love like this always. Holding on to one another. Weathering the gray skies, and celebrating the blue ones. And no matter what, always finding a way to dance through the storms. Somehow, I already know that you will. It was truly our honor to be there with you at the start of it all!
