Hi! Thanks for tuning in again! It's time for the final installment of our DIY Old Fashioned Lemonade series! This past Tuesday, we gathered in the kitchen one last time to try our hands at making some candied lemon peels.
The recipe we used is about as simple as you can get: lemons, sugar, and water. *Bonus tip- pick lemons that look like they have thick peels- it'll make the work that much easier!
We started by slicing the ends off of eight lemons. Notice how I used the same tried and true Rachel Ray cutting method!?! :)
Next, we peeled the lemons making sure to peel from bottom to top. The peels look pretty already!
Next, we boiled the lemon peels. Then rinsed and repeated 3 times! In a separate and slightly bigger pan, we started boiling 3 cups of water mixed with 4 cups of sugar.
After the sugar had completely melted, we mixed in the lemon peels and turned down the heat. We left them to simmer for about an hour.
Next up- MORE SUGAR!! :) We spread a cup of sugar onto a baking sheet and mixed in some of that lemon flavored cane sugar for good measure. Then we rolled the lemon peels around.
Once the lemon peels were fully coated in yummy sugary goodness, we put them on a cooling rack to dry!
And that concludes our current DIY extravaganza! But don't worry- although the old fashioned lemonade project has been put to bed, we have plenty more DIY projects up our sleeves! And we fully intend to keep 'em coming at 'cha!
