Stuff Julia Loves: Lazy Summer Sundays

Thunder rolled in the distance and I glanced briefly upward to make sure the impending storm was not bearing down on me. I lay in the gently swinging hammock and started to read Through the Looking Glass directly after I finished up Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. As I lay in my backyard reading I felt a great kinship to Alice and her waistcoat wearing rabbit. I am pretty sure as a child I once "believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast" too. And it was Sunday. A lazy summer Sunday full of dreams and promise. Just the same kind of day, I imagine, that Alice fell down that rabbit hole. Although I became fast friends with Alice, I confess I did not find myself reading about her adventures simply because the whim appeared. But instead, because two wonderful people gave me an amazing present recently.

For those of you who were wondering what was inside the Anthropologie bag of goodness that I recieved from J&M at my surprise party here they are. The most amazing, adorable, fantastic books you have ever seen! And to top it off, they threw in a cook book with pictures so gorgeous, you could frame them!! YAY!! Because I now have these delectable books and haven't read many of them since high school English class, I have made a promise to myself to read the classics this summer. Lately, I have let myself slide into the comfort of reading fluffy chick lit and it is high time I step up to the plate and give my brain some literary sustenance. So I started with Alice. And it worked out very well. Because the only thing that can make a lazy summer Sunday better than it already is, is a great book about flowers who can speak, fanciful tea parties, and flamingo croquet mallets.

And as I lay there reading about Alice and the Jabberwocky, rain started to fall from the steel grey sky in great big heavy droplets. I slowly made my way back to the house, thinking all the while about a giant Alice who flooded Wonderland with her tears.

Here's to believing impossible things each and every day!!

Oh, and by the way, do any of YOU know why a raven is like a writing desk?!? The Hatter sorta left me hangin'! :)
